North of Hoxton Square, high-rise council estates stretch to the fringes of De Beauvoir. Although neglected and run-down, the area benefits from the blisteringly authentic Vietnamese canteens on Kingsland Road and the elegant Geffrye Museum, which showcases changing domestic design through the centuries.

Despite the spread of richness much of this area maintains its original gritty, urban edge. There are still pound-in-a-pint-pot strip clubs on Hackney Road and Shoreditch High Street and many walls and shop fronts are plastered with graffiti.
